Parental behavior at prep sporting events has been a problem for several years.
It may have gone over the line in Fort Lupton.
In today's issue of the Fort Lupton Press, former football coach Mike Muedeking singles out select parents' behavior (including coarse language directed at his wife and two small children) as one of the reasons he chose not to come back to the sidelines in 2009.
Disagreeing with a coach or a coaching decision is a time-honored part of any sport. But when the disagreement stoops to a level that coaches don't want to return to do something they love, that is very disturbing.
How about some thoughts? Am I missing something here?

No, you are not missing a thing. I was one of the people in the stands, who was there to enjoy a football game...in fact, I was there for every single FLHS football game from the past 2 seasons. I was there to enjoy a football game played by very impressionable, wonderful young men. Those young men, along with the coaches, their families and other spectators, had to be subjected to yelling and other behavior that was unsuitable for a high school sporting event. If you're not there to lend positive reinforcement and cheer on your boys, then why are you even there? It was quite obvious that you weren't enjoying watching them play - yelling as if you were watching an NFL game on TV and thinking that you would make MUCH better coach than any of the other coaches that were down on the field. Pathetic. If I hadn't known any better, I would have thought that I was in the stands with a bunch of high school kids. Oh, wait, I was. Maybe in the future, you should all remember that. Our actions are being watched and learned by our children and when we decide to act like total idiots at a high school football game, it shows those children that it's ok for us to display that type of behavior. The majority of the Fort Lupton Home Stands was a wonderful group of people, but those of you that I am talking about...you know who you are...I feel sorry for your children and it's a shame that you were unable to enjoy watching your kids play football because they weren't winning or the coaches weren't making the call you wanted. I for one, was there to enjoy the game and cheer on the BlueDevils. Not to scream at them because they weren't playing well. Fort Lupton has lost a wonderful Coach and mentor because of you. Coach King will be missed.
I agree wholeheartedly with your comments. I, too, was at most games over the past five seasons and witnessed first hand the idiocy by the few parents. Unfortunately they don't know who they are because the think they are right in their actions. I wish Coach and Mrs. Muedeking well and hope they don't have to endure this kind of behaviour in the future.
